Porn & The War Raging In Your Soul

{My friend and old college roommate, Jason Loveless, has a passion to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ liberate men from the tentacles of pornography. Every once in a spell he sends an email out to the men in his Bible study. I am glad to share his words with you on EvanWelcher.com. Jason majored in Bible at Emmaus Bible College and resides in Baltimore with his 1st wife Jessica, and their two children.)

I was listening to the radio on the way to work this morning, and there was a sermon about Abraham and Lot. It got me thinking about one of Satan’s tactics in the battle against God. Satan would love to see everyone of us turn against God, but that (by the grace of God) does not happen. As we have talked about, the devil is a relentless opponent. So, he does not merely give up once we give our lives to Christ: the next best thing for him is to try and make us ineffective and stagnant.

II Peter2: 7 and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men (for by what he saw and heard that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds), then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation

Lot was rendered ineffective for God…he was not even able to bring his own wife out of Sodom alive! And yet in 2nd Peter, he is called righteous, and we learn that although you wouldn’t know it from the outside, there was a war waging in his soul, and lawlessness tormented him. The best legacy Lot left behind him was to have his actions recorded in the Old and New testament for us to learn from. If you still struggle with lawlessness in your own life, and have not felt the peace and regeneration that we are talking about in this study, do not give up hope. The struggle itself can be a means of encouragement that you still care and are listening to the Holy Spirit wrestle in your life. But do not stop there as Lot did, do not be satisfied with barely escaping judgment by the skin of your teeth. The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation…so talk to Him and let Him know that you need help. Then bring others out of Sodom with you!
I would encourage all of us to be in the habit of stepping back and re-evaluating our relationship with Christ. Ask him to show you areas that need work, but be warned…He will take that request seriously, and will use the body of Christ to help amputate and re-grow limbs! It is a painful but beautiful process. It cost Christ His life, He asks nothing less of His followers.
I love you guys,
~ Jason
