As 1984’s “The NeverEnding Story” might ask, have you given in to The Nothing?
Because this is the great fight that must be fought in American Christianity. We must fight the temptation to feel only, rather than think.
We must fight the temptation to laugh only, rather than weep.
We must fight the temptation to feel good only, rather than lament.
There is a reason God put books like Lamentations and Job in your Bible.
The gathering of God’s people ought not produce mush in your skull.
This is ever the fight before us as much of the Christian Church falls into the abyss of a never ending praise song chorus.
We must fight the temptation to commune with a God of our own making because the phantom of our religious imagination is easier to get along with than the wild, uncompromising God of the Scriptures.
Yes, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but His complexity is no reason to throw our hands up in the air and sign up for team vacuous.
For our God is wild, and uncompromising. We may only be capable of understanding the smallest portion of Himself He has revealed to us, but what a treasure that small bit is.
Are you using that great mind God gave you for the deep old stuff, or have you given into the vacuum?”
Fight against The Nothing.
